Minutes of the Last Meeting
David Wilkinson chaired the meeting on behalf of Diane. The minutes from the AGM held on the 7th August 2012 were read to the meeting and approved as an accurate record of that meeting.
Chair Persons Report
On behalf of Diane, David presented the Chair Persons Report.
This has been a very successful season, with the Leagues, Cups, Handicaps and Table Quizzes working well. The structure of the different games succeeded and the plan is to do the same next season. Success has been due to the efforts of a number of people, Diane for her excellent leadership as chairman, Dave Jones as Webmaster and Fixtures Secretary, Brian Carr as Results Secretary, Ray Pearson as Treasurer, not forgetting the rest of the Committee for their attendance at meetings, ideas and support.
Thanks also go to the Question Setters, Pete, Dave, Euan and Mike. Theirs is a thankless job, with everybody moaning about the questions. However, they are doing a good job and this is demonstrated by the fact that everyone disagrees about which questions to moan about.
In an attempt to encourage more teams to join the Quiz League the Committee will be writing to fifty pubs in the Wrexham area that do not currently have a team in the league.
Congratulations go to the Hole in the Wall team for beating the “Eggheads” on TV very convincingly. This demonstrates the strength of the League and the teams within it.
A reminder to all teams that registration forms for next season can be found on the website, please fill them in as soon as possible and pay subs by the end of August. It was noted that if subs are not paid by around the end of October, (date to be confirmed), teams will be “named and shamed”.
The Summer League starts on the 15th May, 8:30pm in the Lager Club; sixty questions on a handicap basis, all teams are welcome. This league will run every two weeks until the 17th September.
First game of next season will be the Colin Hughes Trophy on the 1st October all winners and runners up from this season are invited to take part. The first league match will be the following week on the 8th October.
Treasurers Report
Ray Pearson presented Interim Accounts for the 2012-13 season. There is an additional £60 to add to the income and as yet charitable donations (expenditure) are still to be included. It was noted that as things stand it is already known that there will be one less team in the league next year. Overall income is down slightly on the previous season and is likely to be slightly down again next year. In general costs are rising, such as postage for the question setters.
The league has joined the Association of Quiz Leagues to facilitate swapping of ideas etc..
Please could teams receiving awards nominate a charity to receive a £25 donation.
The League bank balance is healthy, so whilst there continues to be a background of increasing costs and reducing income it is proposed to keep the fees at £60 for the new season, (£30 for new teams, in their first season in the league). This was seconded by Brian Carr and approved by the meeting.
Any ideas welcome as to where we could spend money to attract more teams to the league. Otherwise the committee will endeavour to keep costs down.
Keith Morris is to check the final accounts.
Election of Officers
Gareth Shone from the Railway (Brymbo) and David Jackson from the Telford have expressed a willingness to serve on the committee. Both were approved, there were no additional volunteers from the floor.
All the current Officers were prepared to continue in their current roles. This was approved by the meeting. David Jackson has volunteered to act as Secretary and this duly approved by the meeting.
Any Other Business
The comment about a team leaving the League was queried. It was confirmed that The Swan has dropped out for next season.
A query was raised about getting regular updates back into The Evening Leader. The paper has been approached but does not appear to be interested. The feeling of the meeting was that it was worth trying again.
The meeting was closed with a reminder that the Colin Hughes Trophy will kick off the new season on the 1st October, with the leagues starting the following week.
Presentation of Awards followed.
